Meet Dr. Kuo

Dr. Kuo is a highly trained and compassionate doctor who joined Cascade Vision Center in 2021. She believes that vision is essential to quality of life and is committed to providing patients the best eye care. She specializes in custom contacts for the treatment of keratoconus and other corneal ectasias, orthokeratology for myopia management, and the management of macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes, and dry eye disease. She was inspired to become an optometrist while working as a part time medical assistant at an eye clinic while completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Washington. After graduating Cum Laude with a double major in Medical Anthropology and Biochemistry, Dr. Kuo attended UC Berkeley’s College of Optometry.

In addition to seeing patients at UC Berkeley’s ocular disease, primary care, and myopia control clinics, she completed clinical training at Veteran’s Affairs Hospitals, an Air Force Base, and a UC San Francisco outpatient center. She volunteered through local organizations to give vision screenings for low income children and the underserved population in the Bay Area. She completed her postdoctoral residency with an emphasis in ocular disease at the Portland Veteran’s Affairs Hospital, a highly competitive program. In addition to providing comprehensive and urgent eye exams, she provided low vision evaluations and specialty contact lens fittings. During her residency she taught and mentored optometry interns from multiple schools and presented clinical cases at regional optometric conferences.

Dr. Kuo is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), a distinction less than 10% of optometrists achieve. The designation-FAAO-means they are recognized by their colleagues as knowledgeable and experienced professionals who have met the high standards of professional competence in a broad range of issues related to eye care. In qualifying for and maintaining Fellowship, individuals are evaluated against the highest standards of professional competence. She continues to fulfill her Fellowship status by attending continuing education programs, symposia, and lectures.

Outside of the clinic Dr. Kuo enjoys trail running, caring for her succulent and cacti garden, and throwing pottery.
